Prof. Hiroyuki Ohsaki

General Chair, ISS 2024

It is our great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 37th International Superconductivity Symposium, ISS 2024, to be held in Kanazawa, Japan, from December 3 to 5, 2024. The ISS has been held annually since the first symposium in 1988, shortly after the discovery of high-temperature superconducting material, and this year marks the 37th symposium.

The first ISS was organized by the International Superconductivity Technology Center (ISTEC). Since then, the ISS has continued as a unique international symposium covering four areas of superconductivity: Physics and Chemistry (PC), Wires and Bulk (WB), Electronic Devices (ED), and Large Scale Applications (AP). ISTEC completed its role and disbanded in 2016, and the ISS continued to be organized by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in place of ISTEC between 2016 and 2023. However, AIST's involvement ended in FY2023, and the ISS transitioned to a new management structure from FY2024.

Starting this year, the ISS operates under the governing board for the International Superconductivity Symposium (ISS-Board), and I am serving as the Chair of the ISS-Board. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all those who have supported the International Symposium on Superconductivity (ISS). The ISS 2024 committees will work together to make ISS 2024 a success, and we would like to ask for your continued support.

The academic and technical areas covered by the ISS and the basic structure of the symposium program will remain unchanged. However, unlike previous ISS symposia, the ISS 2024 has eliminated honoraria for invited speakers and made changes to the registration fees for all attendees. We appreciate your understanding in advance.

ISS 2024 will be held at the Kanazawa Bunka Hall in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The venue is located in the center of Kanazawa City and is surrounded by many tourist sites that represent Japan. Along with Kyoto, Kanazawa is one of the most beautiful and historic cities in Japan. We are delighted to host the ISS in this fascinating city. We look forward to seeing you all in Kanazawa.
