The iron-based superconductor is promising in the high-field magnet application due to its super-high upper critical field and small anisotropy. The research of iron-based superconducting (IBS) coil has become a new focus, and it’s still in its infancy. As the iron-based superconducting tape prepared by the ex-situ method needs high-temperature heat treatment, and the mechanical strength of IBS tapes after heat-treatment is not high enough. Therefore, it’s more suitable to prepare uninsulated IBS coils using the wind-and-react method. The uninsulated coil has the function of “self-protection” due to the inter-turn shunt, which improves the thermal stability of the coil. However, the key technology for preparing uninsulated IBS coils, and the specific influencing mechanisms of different process factors are still unclear. The key technology of preparing uninsulated IBS coils includes the IBS tape sheath material selection, the winding tension control, the winding style, and so on. A comparative about the effect of different process factors on the electromagnetic performance, thermal stability and mechanical property for IBS coils will be conducted. This will contribute to the controllable design and preparation of IBS coils according to practical application requirements in the future.
